Neighboring Prince William County’s illegal immigration policy has been in the spotlight ever since it was implemented in 2007.
As it stands now, the policy trains police officers to check the immigration status of any person held in physical custody. On the local level, Chairman At-Large of the Prince William Board of County Supervisors, has expressed interest in seeing the policy go statewide. Gov. Bob McDonnell (R) said he supports legislation to have illegal aliens face criminal charges.
McDonnell said he was awaiting the approval of the 287(g) status in the commonwealth; which deputizes local law enforcement to act as an Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agent.
According to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s website, 287(g) is a part of the Immigration and Nationality Act that, “allows a state and local law enforcement entity to enter into a partnership with ICE, under a joint Memorandum of Agreement (MOA). The state or local entity receives delegated authority for immigration enforcement within their jurisdictions.”
Currently, the Herndon, Loudoun, Manassas and Prince William County police departments in Virginia have adopted such a memorandum of agreement.
“I feel strongly that they [illegal immigrants] should be detained and deported. We have asked at the state level for the federal government to grant us more authority to police up illegal immigration in Virginia under 287 (g),” said the governor.
McDonnell said he wants local law enforcement agents trained under 287(g) to supplement the staff of the federal government to investigate criminal acts related to illegal to immigration.
“Compared to some other states, Virginia has some pretty great tough laws for illegal immigration,” McDonnell said.

Criminals belong in jail. Immigrants are not criminals. It's bad enough that we decide that whoever is born outside of our borders isn't a real human. It's even worse if we decide that they are somehow evil for existing in "our" soil. Of course we forget this soil was stolen from the natives, a truly criminal act, with blatant disregard of what we now acknowlege are basic human rights. Our motto: "God bless America", which implies "God forget about anyone else". It would be nice if someone finally realized that if we were to do a better job embracing these other fellow humans into our society, we would enable them to pay Taxes by virue of their newfound SSN's. They may enrich our society by becoming leading scientists instead of day laborers. But, I guess it is true that it's easier to just go along with the common train of thought and say they are leeches, parasites, bums and hobos sending our pretty greenbacks where they don't belong and that we should eradicate the vermin one way or another. We call that "Patriotism".

Immigrants who have respect for our laws and apply for citizenship are not criminals, but illegal immigrants are most definitely criminals.

Every Non-representative including obama and holder need to be IMPEACHED! for not upholding the oath of office they swore to defend the Constitution! If these clowns were to do their job, this would all be a Moot point!

Next shut down any business hiring illegal labor and confiscate all property belonging to the owner. Property will be sold at auction and the proceeds to pay for the massive deportation. Oh and owners go to jail.

People have to stop viewing this issue on a macro level with a "deport them all" attitude, which at some level is based on racism and discrimination. In any event, most people who say "deport them all" in public actually say "deport them all except my nanny and gardener" in private. Wanting U.S. immigration laws enforced so our own children will have a chance in their own country has nothing to do with racism or discrimination. Am I a racist because I don't approve of identity theft, welfare abuse or tax evasion?
