Super Bowl Snacks

A round-up of tasty options to serve during the big game

Whether you're in it for the food, the football, the commercials, or all of the above, here is a list of game day snacks and beverages guaranteed to satisfy and entertain you and your guests. My ideal Super Bowl menu includes beer, chips and guacamole, shrimp ceviche, quesadillas, and a fun, football inspired sweet. Follow the hyperlinks below for each recipe.

Guacamole: I mentioned this before, and will say it again—I love my guacamole with a kick. It makes a cold beer that much more satisfying. My recipe calls for chile powder, jalapenos and serrano chile peppers, and I promise if you like heat, you'll love this rendition.

Chelada: This drink is pretty basic–beer, fresh lime juice, and salt–but the salted rim and the addition of lime really make a flavorful difference. If you're feeling creative, add a little hot sauce. Be sure to chill your beer glasses well before game-time.

Ceviche: You've already got the tortilla chips, so why not make a batch of shrimp ceviche? Easy to prepare, delicious and healthy, not to mention the perfect treat for scooping!

Cheesy Mushroom Quesadillas: If you're looking for something a bit more substantial, then this quesadilla recipe from the food blog Scarletta Bakes will fit the bill. I recently had mushroom filled quesadillas at a local restaurant and fell in love with the combination.

Sangria: Not everyone loves beer, so sangria is the perfect companion party drink. My recipe calls for freshly squeezed blood orange juice, orange liqueur, and a cheap bottle of red wine. Just make sure it's a wine you like.

Football Whoopie Pies: I'm straying from the theme of my menu with this recipe, but I had to include it! These pumpkin whoopie pies are so cute, and with a maple-marshmallow cream filling, how can you resist?
